I think one of the most exciting things about expecting is preparing and decorating your baby’s nursery. I had to stop myself from starting a little too soon, but that didn’t prevent from doing a lot of browsing and window shopping early on.
I’m quite classic with my taste but at the same time, I didn’t want have the traditional baby blue with white overdone color palette. Though I knew I was expecting a boy, I actually wanted to stick to a gender neutral theme, one that would work for both a baby boy or girl.
To me, the most important thing was for the room to look and feel tranquil, it was a place where my newborn would spend most of his first months of life sleeping and I wanted both him and myself to feel relaxed and serene in our surroundings. I also wanted to keep the room clean and uncluttered, so maintaining space was a big deal as well.
I picked gray and beige as the main color scheme. To add warmth to the room, I had vintage oak hardwood floors installed and painted the walls a very light soothing shade of gray.
Next, I begun looking for the crib and furniture, bedding and accessories and the whole nine yards. I found everything I was looking for in one single stop, during my many shopping trips to City Centre Beirut, Mamas and Papas. City Centre Beirut happens to have an entire floor (level 2) conveniently dedicated to children’s clothes, furniture and entertainment. As a new mama I have come to appreciate this more than you can imagine.
Although white furniture has been huge nurseries for the past couple of years, I was keen on mahogany as I wanted it to look more like a timeless nursery in the sense, I fell in love this gorgeous oak three-piece nursery set from Mamas and Papas (with each piece sold separately) made up of a large crib, a changing table with a set of drawers and a wardrobe. I also bought a gorgeous honey-colored rocking berceau also known as a cot, which I planned to place in my bedroom for the first couple of weeks before transitioning Luca to his crib.
But no nursery is complete without a special set of bedding, and I was immediately drawn to one called “Once Upon a Time” the theme revolved around a sweet cream colored teddy and his friends, the rabbit, elephant and donkey. What I loved the most is the complete set of accessories as part of the theme so that everything can go together. But when I say complete I mean EVERY detail imaginable was “Once Upon a Time” from the bed bumper for both the crib and cot, blankets, musical crib mobile, lampshade, curtains, changing mat, rug, painting, wallpaper, and baby sleeping bag. I even went a step further and chose a silver tin with a teddy from the theme as a souvenir, it had for gorgeous silver pebbles inside each with a wish.
I love how the nursery came together in the end, and how easy it all was to find. Mamas and Papas at City Centre Beirut is definitely a place I recommend you put on your list when designing your nursery.
Let me know what you think!
