If you didn’t go see “Man in the Mirror” the show this week then you missed out. The spectacle took place at Beirut Souks and ran for 4 nights in a row. I’m a big Michael Jackson fan and 3 years after his death I’ve been having some serious MJ withdrawals.
Having read pretty great reviews about this show that started out in Nevada and somehow made its way to Lebanon, I was eager to check them out. The show is a musical and a tribute with a phenomenal team of dancers (and bodies) and a sensational group of vocalists who performed my all-time favorites and classics including Thriller, Beat it, They Don’t Care About Us, to name a few. It was performed by a modest-sized and teenage-looking cast that captured audiences the moment they got on stage with their incredible synchronization and outpouring charm. And mind you, this was no Britney Spears bubble gum pop show, there was no lip-syncing, everything was live, even the music, except for the little Jackson kid at the end performing ABC, I had my doubts about him.
I appreciated that none of the show’s acts tried to impersonate Jackson down to the last detail, but rather it was a joint-emulation of the King Of Pop and most of all a trip down memory lane through his timeless hits. If you grew up in the 80’s you would remember how those songs brought out our first very awkward dance moves and stirred up our emotions as we learned about the world by wailing his lyrics. (sorry ma and pa)
Anyway the show’s over now but if they happen to be playing at a city near you – I recommend you see them.
