So much for fighting stereotypes. Has anyone bothered to look at Miss Lebanon Yara Khoury Mikhael’s promo shots for Miss Universe 2011? Was it really necessary that she represents this country wearing a tacky leaving-nothing-to-the-imagination bellydancing outfit? *To be fair, the stylist made all the contestants dress in similar outfits so we know it wasn’t her pick* Still though, blame the Trump people or organizers if you may, but the next time I’m asked by a foreigner if I belly dance because I’m from Lebanon what am I supposed to say? They’re right to think so.. take a look
Dumbledore the wizard called , he’s furious you stole his outfit.
Sareen says
Uhm…sorry Ivy but I have to disagree with you on this one. The “belly dancing” outfit was assigned to ALL the contestants. If you open the link you can browse by country and they were all assigned pretty much the same outfit…
As for the folklore dress, well what can we do. This is our heritage hehe. But in all fairness I don’t think she has a say in the clothes and again probably is assigned with the clothes beforehand.
Listen I don’t think she represents the Lebanese beauty but we can’t blame her for everything!
Mariam says
I think its a nice outfit.. and the folklore dress- I just wish it was a different colour or something..
As Sareen said, she may not be the most beautiful girl in the world but we can’t hate her and blame her for everything.
jerk says
Her outfit = HOT
LindaKh says
I agree with Ivy they all look very tacky Donald Trump likes to make women sexual objects
E says
Sorry to be the one who breaks it to you… but… Dumbledore is dead
Someone says
In my opinion, I don’t think people will judge the Lebanese girls based on what Miss Lebanon is wearing. Go to Europe and try to browse the channel on any TV. All you get is “sex wit Lebanese girls” … What a shame. But actually this is an exact example of what Lebanese girls are: hypocrit sluts. Simply!
someone else says
Well “Someone” we have a saying that “not all of your fingers are the same” it is unfair to say that all Lebanese girls are sluts, some of us are actually hard working persons supporting their families, looking after their children… an individual or a channel created by an enemy state does not represent the entire population
Ivy says
Wow someone sounds like she has a serious ” issue” with Lebanese girls, bigots are not welcome on this blog so go wash your mouth out before the rest of the Lebanese girls hear what you just called them
SeifAndBeirut says
Lebanese women are min ashraf khili2 allah ;). If you can’t read Arabic…ask around.
ZuZ says
Duhhhh of course we can blame her! We can blame her for being ugly as f@&k …
Aline C says
I BEYOND can’t believe that I’m the same age as this girl.
Danielle says
Is that really the best national costume they could’ve come up with? Wow.
SeifAndBeirut says
Danielle, first off – I miss you lol. Secondly, that is a POOR design for our national costume. If anyone has watched Myriam Fares on TV during Ramadan she took this national costume and PERFECTED it. Watch this video [forward it to 3:40] and watch how she took our national costume and really did a great job with it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZlblr_kvr4&feature=related
Mariam says
Myriam Fares perfected this look because she is the hottest Lebanese/Arab female celeb actually. and the designer hired is clearly amazing. Everything about the look was Lebanese. For Fawazeer though they didn’t have to mention Lebanon in the song when asking people what country the dance represents?
