How fabulous were those red carpet-worthy gowns at the Golden Globes last night. It really is a great year for fashion. I had so many favorites it was hard to choose from. But the bad ones were pretty ridiculous as well. Take a look
Emily Blunt dazzled in a head to toe embellished gold Michael Kors dress with side-cut-outs. I like the dress but I’m not entirely sure I like it on her. What I loved though was her simple high bun and how she accessorized the look with pink and red gemstone earrings.
I usually think Zooey Deschanel has a big tendency to go for the 80’s prom girl look, think 2012 Emmys look but the fire red on this Oscar de la Renta works so well on both the bodice and her fair skin. The pearl necklace also saved this dress from being too ballgown-ish, I’m not sure if her and Jennifer Lawrence crossed paths though cause they would have looked like bridesmaids next to each other.
Hot hot hot! Jennifer Lawrence looks phenomenal in this jaw-dropping coral Dior Couture gown. I just love the cone shaped bustier on it, it takes her otherwise conventional look to a whole new level. The metallic waist belt also adds such a modern touch.
Another Lebanese designer makes headlines, this time Reem Acra for this ethereal cap-sleeve and sequin embellishment gown worn by Isla Fisher. I loved her side-swept retro hair and bold lip color.
The good witch from the Wizard of Oz called. She wants her dress back ASAP. Yes, Julianne Hough got it all wrong in what looks like an attention deficit gown by Monique Lhuillier. There is so much going on over here it makes it so hard to concentrate but it looks like the aftermath of one big fabric barf.
How do I feel about this Jennifer Lopez in this white floral appliqué lace over a nude skin Zuhair Murad gown? The dress is beautiful. She looks beautiful. No one can deny that. But this is THE typical dress I thought she’d be wearing. She loves the teaser dresses you know… the way the lace JUST covers her lady parts and how the dress is super skin tight. I feel like I’ve seen this look on her over and over and over. It’s time to put the sexy aside for once and start playing with fashion. But someone needs to tell her to tone down the pout.
Jessica Alba has never looked as perfect as she did last night in this strapless soft-coral Oscar de la Renta dress. The design contours her silhouette flawlessly and the way the fabric ruffles at the bottom brings it all so graciously together. Not to mention those Harry Winston rocks she’s sporting on her neck. LOVE!
Halle Berry turned heads in this Versace one-shoulder gown- but not in a good way. People were wondering if Donatella was playing a cruel joke on her because this seemingly unfinished patterned mess was so painful to watch. And I think everyone is over the spikey messy hair look from her. Go home, mail back that dress and think about what you’ve done.
Less is more. That’s what Anne Hathaway proved in this delicately beaded dress from Chanel’s SS09 haute couture collection. She’s channeling Audrey Hepburn and starting to look a lot like the late beauty icon. And though she’s made it on many people’s worst dress list, there’s something about the way she effortlessly wears that gown that makes her entire look come together. She is however looking skinnier than ever, but I guess all that hard work paid off since she went home a winner for her much-buzzed about performance in Les Misérables.
So let’s talk about the haute mess that was Lucy Liu last night. Lucy donned this puffy floral gown from Carolina Herrera’s Pre-Fall 2013 that looked like she had broke into some old folk’s cottage and ripped off their 20th century upholstery after watching Beauty and The Beast. Fashion risks are fun and I loved the statement she made at the Emmy’s last year but this is a costume.
One of my best dressed of the night was Kate Hudson in this sultry long sleeved dress with plunging neckline and gold embellishments by Alexander McQueen. Black is always the safe bet but there is nothing safe about this look for a red carpet. I haven’t loved something this much on her since that fabulous Emilio Pucci she donned at the 2010 SAG Awards.
Nicole Kidman stepped out in this black crepe gown from Alexander McQueen’s Spring ’13 collection. Known for her elegance and refined fashion sense this couture queen also showed some skin this in this sheer-netted fabric on her midsection. She sure knows how to pick them- remember her Emmy Dress?

I just loved Kate Hudson’s gown! It was one of my favourites, along with Jessica Alba’s, Jennifer Lawrence’s, Anne Hathaway’s, and Halle Berry’s! I do however agree with your opinion on Lucy Lui’s gown, which was just too colorful for my liking.
