Before you delve into Tip #2 ( going out for a drink alone) I feel its my duty to share my insights on the whole drink-buying scenario. This is what happened last night.
I was at the bar. I met Walid. He sat right next to me. He buys me a drink, I buy him back a drink. He acts like he’s having a cardiac arrest when I pulled out my wallet and says things like “your insulting me how could you?” Which by the way is one of the most ridiculous things you hear as a single girl in Beirut these days. Don’t get me wrong I seek chivalry in a man and let’s face it if he doesn’t pay especially in the beginning chances are most girls are going to find that a complete turn-off. But this sounds a little over dramatic. How typical, the guy pays the bill while the girl stares into space acting like she can’t see him paying the bill. Even if he is unemployed and just used up his gas money to buy her a Gunpowder, which by the way is a simply fabulous drink.
But buying a guy drinks is one of my most prized tactics.Maybe even Tip #2.2, it goes hand-in-hand- with Tip #2. You see maybe its just me but I know many girls who agree with me, the more drinks a guy buys a girl the more she feels in debt to him , in other words the more obligated she is to put out.No matter how much a guy denies it, a guy DOES expect something in return when he buys you a drink. I’m not necessarily saying he expects something too drastic, but at least a phone number or a second date. But if I buy the guy back some drinks, we’re cool and if after 5 drinks his nose still seems too frumpy, I’m bouncing without a silly excuse. Heck I might even tell him! Bisoux

Dear Ivy,
That’s totally ridiculous and insecure… Men like to pay the bill because it’s an ego trip. Yeah!
